Role models

Fairywarming heart-tale stuff as the unpaid players of stony broke Portsmouth FC make it to the FA Cup final, thanks in part to Kevin-Prince Boateng (above) who, you will notice, has several tattoos of John Portsmouth Football Club Westwood adorning his person.

Such commitment and spirit is rare to find in professional sport these days. If only those overpaid, cheating, egomaniac, sly, prima donna rugby players could be more like footballers, eh?

I note you've had to go back eleven years to fill your list - one that could be compiled using a month's worth of footie examples. But I'm glad you find Portsmouth's charming recent history edifying.

And they do respect the ref.

Oooo! As immobilising as a tackle from behind by Jonah Lomu and as bitchy as a chant from the Austin Healey fan club!

Oh I don't know... I was fair-minded enough to leave out the murder.

I think that incident can be classed as post-match, which makes football (pre- and post-) responsible for quite a few hundred unlawful deaths as well as uncountable other bits of violence.

But I have to admit I am enjoying the spectacle of you trying to put football on the moral high ground. One of your more challenging challenges.

I'm just pulling your chain, Gaw. Putting yourself on the moral highground is definitely a rugby thing, so fun to take the piss.

Well I say 'rugby thing only'... there's also golf, which is even more insufferably sanctimonious. Hooray for Tiger!

The thing I don't understand about tattoos is that no matter how expensive and well you decorate a room, there always comes a time when you fancy a change.

That said, I do like tattoos when they pretend to be jewellery. That 'necklace' of his is never going to look old.
