The fact that China still has a "one child" rule, with all of the complex and intertwined issues of liberty, governance, culture, productivity, and inherent predictions about future capabilities that the rule reflects, strikes me as a perfectly good retort to those who fear that China will be taking over from the U.S. in a few decades.
Just ain't gonna happen. The Chinese themselves don't think that it will, as revealed in their policies.
