John Mortimer

In 2005 I went to see Mortimer deliver his 'Miscellany' and wrote about it here.

It was good fun, and until I read my own article there I'd completely forgotten the bizarre detail that Deep Purple's Jon Lord accompanied Mortimer on piano.

Anyway, RIP John. You were, above all else, a hoot.

Voyage round my father was one of the best television plays, (the one with Olivier) I can remember seeing. Being a barrister I guess bullshit was his stock in trade, always with a twinkle in the eye, sadly missed.
Deep purple's Jono doing a Graham Parsons, whatever next Brit, Amy Winehouse's Kathleen Ferrier retrospective ?

Did you see the BBC4 programme 'A Life in Words' this evening? Well worth watching on iPlayer if you missed it. I had forgotten some of the controversial cases he defended, I was always more interested in his literary achievements.

No I missed that but I'll watch it on the Virgin catch up thingy. Of course Mortimer never worried too much about the truth getting in the way of a good story, but I like that about him.
