It would be fascinating to meet with some typical Victorians or Edwardians to ask their take on that "frightening" statue. I wonder whether they wouldn't see it as the epitome of childhood beauty and innocence, although possibly in need of a few smacks to build character.
You beat me to it. That is a very scary statue yet I can't quite figure out why. I think it has something to do with the colour.
