Stonehenge

Apparently they've found some really old houses near Stonehenge.

Stonehenge is indeed a noteworthy place. I've been there, though not at the solstice, and I will now present the sum total of my thoughts on visiting the place...

...It's not nearly as disappointing as you might think.

    Where's the gift shop?

  2. And the sports bar. Those big upright rocks are just begging for some 84" flat screens.

  3. Funnily enough, there is a gift shop/museum etc. They've cleverly cut it into a nearby hillside, so it doesn't spoil the view.

  4. Are you sure? I heard you can't get anywere near it now. Don't you need to believe in ghosties and pixies for it to be exciting really? I don't believe in those. Only hobbits.

  5. Sounds like an ideal candidate for 'A Place in the Sun'.

  6. Cleaned up your sidebar, I see.

It's certainly more streamlined, but the old one had a certain eclectic charm.

  7. When I went, which was some years ago, you could only get to within 20 yards or so as a ring fence surrounded it. But I believe you can go right into it these days.

You don't need to believe in pixies to wonder at at - those rocks are really, really big and heavy. Heaven knows how prehistoric blokes managed to build it, or why they went to the trouble.

The new blogger format works against the amateurish cobbled-together look, but I haven't finished with it yet...
