Talk about missing the point

From the BBC:

Britain should have a day to celebrate its national identity, Gordon Brown has proposed in a speech portraying Labour as a modern patriotic party.

The chancellor used his first major speech of 2006 to urge Labour supporters to "embrace the Union flag".

What could be less British than inventing a day in which we are expected to celebrate Britishness?

  1. He has to convince the English that, despite devolution, we are all British; that YooKay PLC is hunky dory, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Tough break for Brown but I for one will not tolerate a Scottish prime minister that has a say in English health, education and transport when my MP has no say in the concomitant Scottish legislation.
